EMPLOYMENT WITH UCCA
Union County Community Action, Inc. (UCCA) is a non-profit corporation, established on January 6th, 1966, to administer projects and operate programs to provide comprehensive early childhood development, family engagement and development, career readiness & occupational skills training, and other self-sufficiency services to disadvantaged children, families, and individuals. We are governed by a 15-member volunteer Board of Directors, and day-to-day operations are managed by Mrs. Jenny R. McGuirt/Executive Director. We are structured in three operational components, which includes:
Division of Children and Family Services;
Division of Employment and Training.
We are funded through a combination of competitive grants received from Federal, State, and local government agencies. Currently, our primary source of revenue comes from the United States Department of Health & Human Services- Administration for Children and Families for the operation of the Head Start and Early Head Start programs across Union, Anson & Richmond counties. Under those programs we currently provide comprehensive early childhood development services to 570 children, age 0-5, each year. In Anson & Richmond counties we also operate the North Carolina Pre-Kindergarten program for four-year-old children.
Employee Benefits (Health/Dental/Vision/Life/Accidental Death/Short Term Disability/Retirement):
UCCA provides employees with a pre-tax employer sponsored benefit package that includes Health Insurance (PPO), Dental Insurance, and Vision Insurance. The agency also provides all employees, free of charge, with Life, Accidental Death, and Short Term Disability Insurance.
Once an employee has worked for 12 months, and 1,000 hours, the employee begins receiving a 5% contribution from the agency into his/her 401-k retirement plan. The agency provides this contribution regardless of whether the employee contributes any of his/her own earnings. Employees are immediately vested in this plan on the first day of the month following his/her anniversary date.
Employee Benefits Continued (Pay and Leave Benefits)
Employees are paid bi-weekly (every other Thursday). Once hired, employees immediately begin accruing Sick Leave and Annual Leave at a pro-rated amount of .05 hours of leave for every hour of paid time: for every 80 hours paid, employees receive 4 hours of Sick Leave and 4 hours of Annual Leave. For a full-time, year-round position this equates to 13 days of Annual Leave (104 hours) and 13 days of Sick Leave (104 hours) per year. Additionally, full-time employees receive 11 paid holidays per year, providing the employee is scheduled to work, or on approved leave, on the business day before & the business day after the holiday.
