EMPLOYMENT WITH UCCA
Union County Community Action, Inc. (UCCA) is a non-profit corporation, established on January 6th, 1966, to administer projects and operate programs to provide comprehensive early childhood development, family engagement and development, career readiness & occupational skills training, and other self-sufficiency services to disadvantaged children, families, and individuals. UCCA is governed by a 15-member volunteer Board of Directors, and the day-to-day operations of the agency are managed by Mrs. Jenny R. McGuirt, our Executive Director. Our agency has three major operational components including Administration, the Division of Children & Family Services, and the Division of Employment & Training.
UCCA is funded through a combination of competitive grants received from Federal, State, and local government agencies. Our largest source of revenue is the US Department of Health & Human Services- Administration for Children & Families, which funds our agency to operate Head Start and Early Head Start services to 570 children ages 0-5 years old across Union, Anson, and Richmond counties each year. We also receive funding from the North Carolina Department of Health & Human Services' Division of Child Development & Early Education to provide services through the NC Pre-Kindergarten program in Anson and Richmond counties and from the NCDHHS Office of Economic Opportunity to operate the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) in Union County.
Employee Benefit- Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program
Employee Benefits (Health/ Dental/ Vision/ Life/Accidental Death/ Short Term Disability/ Retirement):
UCCA provides employees with a pre-tax, employer sponsored benefit package that includes Health Insurance (PPO), Dental Insurance, and Vision Insurance. The agency also provides all employees, free of charge, with basic Life, Accidental Death, and Short Term Disability Insurance. Employees may purchase additional Life and Accidental Death insurance.
Once an employee has worked for 12 months, and 1,000 hours, the employee begins receiving a 5% contribution from the agency into his/her 401-k retirement plan. The agency provides this contribution regardless of whether the employee contributes any of his/her own earnings. Employees are immediately vested in this plan on the first day of the month following his/her anniversary date.
Employee Benefits Continued (Pay and Leave Benefits)
Employees are paid bi-weekly (every other Thursday). Once hired, employees immediately begin accruing Sick Leave and Annual Leave at a pro-rated amount of .05 hours of leave for every hour of paid time: for every 80 hours paid, employees receive 4 hours of Sick Leave and 4 hours of Annual Leave. For a full-time, year-round position this equates to 13 days of Annual Leave (104 hours) and 13 days of Sick Leave (104 hours) per year. Additionally, full-time employees receive 11 paid holidays per year, providing the employee is scheduled to work, or on approved leave, on the business day before & the business day after the holiday.
