UCCA Smart Start Resource Center (SSRC)

The Early Childhood Smart Start Resource Center (SSRC) is operated by Union County Community Action, Inc. (UCCA) and is supported through a partnership with the Alliance for Children and is currently hosted by South Piedmont Community College. SSRC provides early childhood learning tools and developmental materials for Union County children from birth through age five.

With a lending collection of over 5,000 resources, SSRC serves as a shared library where early childhood programs can borrow high-quality materials to strengthen classroom instruction, support developmental needs, and encourage learning through play.

SSRC Delivery Program

The SSRC Delivery Program is designed to make access to early learning materials simple and convenient. This service provides scheduled deliveries of educational resources directly to Union County childcare centers, preschools, and licensed home-based childcare programs.

Our goal is to help early learning professionals access tools that support children’s development, learning, and overall well-being—without needing to travel to the Resource Center.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can participate in the Delivery Program?

The Delivery Program is available to Union County childcare centers, preschools, licensed family childcare homes, and therapists or support staff who serve children ages 0–5.

Is there a cost to participate?

No. The Delivery Program is offered free of charge.

How often do deliveries happen?

Deliveries are typically scheduled every two to three weeks.

What happens if items are damaged or lost?

Programs are expected to use reasonable care when borrowing items, but we understand that occasional damage can occur when materials are used by young children. If damage or loss becomes frequent, replacement charges may apply. If concerns arise, the SSRC team will contact the site director before any action is taken.

How do I request materials?

To request resources, start by browsing the SSRC online catalog. Once enrolled in the Delivery Program, you and your staff will activate your accounts, create request lists, and place holds.

If you need assistance, you may also contact the SSRC team directly by email or phone.

Is there a limit on how many items can be requested?

Requests for items within a specific theme or subject area are limited to five (5) items per center. Each teacher may place two holds per delivery cycle, but additional items may be requested by emailing your catalog list to the SSRC team.

Can I request an item that isn’t currently in the catalog?

Yes. If there is an item you believe would be useful to your program and beneficial to other providers as well, SSRC may be able to purchase it as funding allows.
